While serving as Minnesota Attorneys General, Lori Swanson and Mike Hatch provided legal representation to the Minnesota Department of Commerce, which regulates the insurance industry in Minnesota. They brought lawsuits involving the insurance industry. Mr. Hatch also served as Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Commerce for eight years, where he was a hands-on regulator of the industry, and has previously served on the boards of directors of several insurance companies.
